Chapter Nine

A carnal sound escaped him.

Jack told her, “Darlin’, for all my suggestive comments, I came here neither prepared nor presumptuous. Granted, I was lookin’ forward to foolin’ around. But I had no intention of guidin’ you down a path you might not want to—”

“I know you weren’t being presumptuous, Jack. And you know I can’t be swayed against my will.”

“No denyin’ that.”

She was silent, contemplative. Because this was tricky territory for them both.

She asked, “How long has it been for you, Jack?”

“A while,” he confessed with a grim look that implied a drawn-out looong in between those two words.

She didn’t have to mention her six years. They’d covered that, obviously.

She said, “I take the pill to normalize my periods.” It was a bit more complex than that, but Jillian knew she couldn’t get pregnant, so she added, “I think we’re safe.”

His thumb swept along her temple. “You sure about this?”

“I’m sure about you.”

One corner of Jack’s mouth lifted in a bad-boy grin. “Hasn’t this just been my lucky month?”

“If you like roller coasters with corkscrews in them.” She held his hand against her cheek for a moment.

“Maybe I do. Or maybe,” he said as he reached for the button on his jeans, “I know which rides are worth takin’.”

“Oh, with the charm . . .” She sighed.

“You’re my undoin’, darlin’.” He slid the zipper down its track.

Excitement rippled through Jillian, along with a renewed sense of urgency to have Jack inside her, filling her.

He stripped down, and she admired the view.

Her breath caught in her throat, and her nipples tightened further.

His powerful legs were the perfect complement to all his sculpted hotness. Even the man’s feet were sexy.

But, of course, her gaze had to drift upward to his thick cock, throbbing and tempting.

Jillian hadn’t exactly been driven by her libido, ever. That changed instantly.

“Jesus, Jack,” she murmured. She couldn’t even think of a joke to save her from salivating. She just . . . stared.

Jack peered down at her with a dubious look on his face.

“No lie,” she said. “I’m impressed.”

“Good to know, darlin’. Good to know.”

She whispered, “All that and a bag of chips?”

He chuckled again. “If that’s all you’ve got, I’ll take it.”

“I might be having a brain aneurysm.” At the very least, she was suffering the wildest eruptions of those damned flame emoji—within her.

Jack moved in close, settling on the sofa in a manner that allowed him to prop himself up on the pillows she laid back against so that he wasn’t crushing her.

Naturally, he’d think of that. He thought of everything.

Downside was . . . he was correct in her need to not feel anyone bearing down on her. Yet she wanted his weight on her. She wanted to feel every inch of him, from head to toe.

But she was smart enough to recognize that could incite a triggering moment, and Jillian was doing her absolute best to ensure that didn’t happen. Jack was too.

Though he was also doing his best to be certain that other things happened.
